Make Your Own Coconut Shave Cream

Make your own coconut shaving cream - Biome naked natural beauty bar

Updated August 2026.

Quick answer: You can make your own coconut shave cream with liquid castile soap, coconut oil, castor oil, glycerine, citric acid and cornstarch. This simple recipe makes approximately one 250ml bottle and provides lubrication and moisture for a smooth, close shave.

Our super moisturising coconut shave cream nourishes and protects the skin, while helping you achieve a good, close shave. Unlike conventional shaving cream, it uses simple, natural ingredients and doesn't rely on an aerosol can to create its creamy texture.

How to make coconut shave cream

This homemade shaving cream uses a combination of oils, liquid castile soap and glycerine to create a rich, creamy mixture that helps the razor glide smoothly over the skin.

Ingredients

Method

  1. In a medium glass jar or jug, whisk together the coconut oil, liquid castile soap, castor oil, glycerine and hot water until well combined.
  2. Add the citric acid, cornstarch and essential oil and whisk again until you have a beautiful, rich, creamy consistency.
  3. Slowly pour into a 250ml reusable disc-cap bottle.

How to use homemade shave cream

This recipe makes enough to fill 1 x 250ml disc-cap bottle. You could also put it into a 250ml pump bottle, but we found that a disc-cap bottle is easier to use.

Shake well before each use. Pump or pour a small amount of the mixture into your hands and smooth over areas intended for shaving. Shave as you would normally.

Don't expect lots of lather: This homemade shaving cream won't lather as much as a conventional shaving foam. Instead, it provides lubrication to help your razor glide over the skin for a close shave.

This shave cream works well for both face and body shaving. You could also use it as a wonderfully nourishing face and body wash.
